It is found primarily in the wet lowlands up to the mid mountains and being a timid species it is known to dwell in the southwestern dense rain forests. This bird can be observed in the Mitirigala Forest Reserve, Kitulgala Forest Reserve, The Peak Wilderness Sanctuary, Bodhinagala Forest Reserve, Morapitiya Forest Reserve, Sinharaja Rain Forest and the Kanneliya Rain Forest.
