It is also known as the Sri Lanka Green Pigeon and found commonly in the lowlands and lower level hills, existing in rainforests and dense wooded areas. This bird can be observed in the Peak Wilderness Sanctuary, Morapitiya Forest Reserve, Mitirigala Forest Reserve, Kitulgala Forest Reserve, Sinharaja Rain Forest, Kanneliya Forest Reserve, Hiyare Forest Reserve, Udawattakele Forest Reserve, Minneriya National Park, Sigiriya Sanctuary and the Wilpattu National Park.
