Also known as Sri Lanka Hanging Parrot or Bat Parrot because they hang from the branch with their heads down. They are found abundantly in the hill country at elevations over 4000 ft, sometimes in the wet zone but hardly ever in the dry zone, if ever only in the foothills of the dry zone. This bird can be observed in the Mitirigala Forest Reserve, Kitulgala Forest Reserve, The Peak Wilderness Sanctuary, Bodhinagala Forest, Morapitiya Forest Reserve, Sinharaja Forest Reserve, Kanneliya Rain Forest, Hiyare Forest Reserve and the Riverstone Area.
