It is a commonly found breeding resident in dry lowlands, scattered areas of the wet lands up to the mid mountainous regions. This bird can be observed in the Udawalawe National Park, Kalametiya Sanctuary, Bundala National Park, Kirindha Palatupana Wetlands, Yala National Park, Nilgala Forest Reserve and Galoya National Park, Kumana National Park, Kumana National Park, Sigiriya Sanctuary, Anaiwilundawa Sanctuary and the Wilpattu National Park.
