Welcome to Sri Lanka. Upon arrival our representative will receive you in Colombo International Airport and usher you to Badalgama for first two nights stay in a small planter's bungalow closer to Colombo International Airport in a Coconut Estate. Relax by the pool in the afternoon, in preparation for the Family Adventure of Sri Lanka. On day two you could either opt to relax the full day or take a morning boat trip to Negombo lagoon where you take on a traditional sailing catamaran with fisherman to sail in the lagoon to learn and witness a bustling fish markets, fishing villages, fishermen way of life, fishing techniques and see many verities of birds living in the mangroves by the lagoon banks. This will be followed by Island picnic seafood BBQ lunch cooked and served freshly by the fishermen.
4 hours north of Negombo is Habarana, a central location for the most important cultural monuments of Sri Lanka. You will be staying 3 nights in a very comfortable Eco Lodge surrounded by nature and also boasts a swimming pool. You would be exploring Dambulla Cave Temple, Sigiriya Rock Fortress, Polonnaruwa ruins as highlights and also an open top jeep tour with a villager in the rural villages of Sigiriya followed by an adventurous afternoon in the Habarana jungle identifying the local wild species and taking part in a treasure hunt in the wilderness, one of our exclusive experiences during your family adventure. We also do a guided excursion in Polonnaruwa to observe the cheeky monkeys of Polonnaruwa with a specialist guide and this will be a fun filled activity for children. We then head on to Kandy for two nights, the most visited town in Sri Lanka by travelers and the most venerated town by the locals where Lord Buddha's Tooth Relic now calls home. On day two in Kandy, you will be met by our specialist lady host who will accompany you to a local market to explain you about local spices and vegetables where you could try your bargaining skills with local vendors. Back at her home in Kandy, you will be taking part in cooking an authentic local meal with the host's family followed by lunch. There will be some surprises on your way by the family. This is a very good cultural experience and the best way to experience non commercial Sri Lankan hospitality and an ideal way to meet and interact with fellow locals during your family adventure in Sri Lanka and Maldives. This experience is expected to be finished by 3 PM and you could relax by the pool at the hotel or do some exploring on your own in Kandy town, possibly visiting Kandy's Temple of Tooth Relic and also attending Kandy Cultural Dance show. You will be staying in a family owned and operated small guest house in the countryside of Kandy, yet closer to the town.
Take the scenic train journey from Kandy to Nuwara Eliya along the British built railway line to transport their Tea harvest to Colombo port. This is a nostalgic locomotive ride through the tea estates, forest patches and sleepy villages. A “Not to miss” attraction in Sri Lanka. You will be staying in a small guest house with a nice garden closer to Nuwara Eliya town during your family adventure in Sri Lanka and Maldives.
After visiting a Tea factory and a Tea estate for the complete tea plucking, tasting and producing experience in Nuwara Eliya, you will be transferred to Ella for two nights stay in a fine small hotel in the mountains of Ella with jaw dropping views of the Ella Gap. A walk to 9 Arch Bridge built by British's, walk to little Adam’s Peak are some of the local experiences available in Ella and if you are too adventurous, you could try the hike to Ella Rock. A tuk tuk ride with a local in the mist capped Tea estates of Haputale with a visit to Lipton's seat and Dambatenna Tea factory also could be arranged on your request.
OK, now it is a taster of an African safari, here in Yala, one of the best places in the world to see the big cat, Leopard. You will be staying two nights in very comfortable classic tented safari lodge near Yala NP where you will be taken on guided safaris to see Leopards, Elephants, Crocodiles, Sloth Bears and many varieties of birds. You may also take part in a responsible tourism initiative of fishing with a local fisherman in the area, in the lake in front of the safari lodge.
This will be your last night in Sri Lanka before jet setting to Turquoise blue sea and white sandy beaches of Maldives, the other part of this paradise. On your way from Yala to Negombo, visit the historical Dutch Fort in Galle town and walk the streets of the Fort and wander around to explore the architectural marvels of Dutch era of Sri Lanka. Not to forget a meal at one of the trendy restaurants inside the Fort. During your family adventure holiday, you will be staying the last night in Sri Lanka in Negombo, in a small guest house with walking distance to Negombo Beach.
