DAY 1 & 2 - Colombo
Arrival in Colombo International Airport and meet with our driver. You will be then transferred to the very heart of Colombo for two nights stay in a city hotel just a stone throw away from all of central Colombo's attractions. After a good night sleep of 1st night, venture out on your own exploring Capitol Colombo by foot. Pettah market & bazar, Dutch hospital square, Galle face green are some of the best attractions to go for. Near Galle Face Green the street food scene is not to be missed.
DAY 3 & 4 - Anuradhapura
Take a Tuk Tuk ride to Colombo-Fort railway station, which is just 5 minutes away to get on board the train to the sacred city of Anuradhapura. The train leaves Colombo at 8.50 AM and journey takes approximately 5 hours. Upon arrival in Anuradhapura, you may hire a taxi to go the hotel in Anuradhapura for two nights stay. We suggest that you have leisurely afternoon chilling out by the pool.
DAY 5 & 6 - Dambulla/Sigiriya
On day five, catch a public bus plying from Anuradhapura to Dambulla which is approximately 2 ½ hours journey. Upon arrival in Dambulla, hire a Tuk Tuk and head your way to Sigiriya which is only 30 minutes away from Dambulla and you will be centrally accommodated to attractions of Sigiriya and Pidurangala. Upon arrival in Sigiriya, chill out by the pool that afternoon.
DAY 7, 8 & 9 - Kandy
Catch a public bus from Dambulla town to go to the historical city of Kandy, just under 2 ½ hours ride and you will be staying in a hotel in the heart of Kandy town where you would be able to walk to the town and explore hustle and bustle of the city centre.
DAY 10 - Nuwara Eliya
Get on board the train from Kandy to Nuwara Eliya at 8.47 AM to enjoy a very scenic train journey to the very heart of the Tea plantation. You will be booked with 2nd class reserved seats to enjoy the view. The train is approximately 4 hours journey and, in the afternoon, you could explore Nuwara Eliya town and market or spend some time at leisure. You will be staying a simple hotel just for one night in the centre of town making it easy for you to explore the town. Nuwara Eliya once was the summer retreat for British and Scottish planters in the colonial days and to date you would be able to witness the remnants of colonial past.
DAY 11 & 12 - Ella
After breakfast at the hotel, get on board the train to Ella from Nuwara Eliya at 9.30AM to continue the train journey to Ella. On this sector of train journey, you will be passing sleepy villages, rain forest patches, montane forests, tea estates and grassy plains, a little different to the scenery you witness from Kandy to Nuwara Eliya. The journey takes approximately 4 hours and upon arrival at the hotel in Ella, opt to relax or just explore Ella town for some chilled beer or two in a road side restaurant.
DAY 13 & 14 - Wellawaya
Another adventure is set to begin, an authentic rural farm stay in a very rural and scenic backdrop in Wellawaya is a good mix of cultural, agricultural and wildlife experience of two nights. Catch a bus plying to from Ella to Matara, this service is very frequent and our guide will receive you in Wellawaya and take you to the rural farm stay for two nights adventure. A pure local and rustic experience where you could immerse in culture and wildlife.
On these two days you would be able to explore the farming fields with local farmers, go fishing with local lake fishermen, canoe in a traditional catamaran in the lake, go watching birds, cook a typical farm meal and go to see wild Elephants in the backyard of the farm stay followed by a sundowner. This is a very good private wildlife viewing experience as this is only for resident guests at the farm stay. On 2nd night you will be offered an outdoor BBQ dinner amidst a roaring campfire under millions of stars. Surely, this is going to be the highlight of your trip.
DAY 15, 16 & 17 - Tangalle
It is now time to hit the beach. Our guide at the farm stay will bring you to Wellawaya after breakfast to catch the bus coming from Ella to Matara where you need to get down in Tangalle, a picture post card style idyllic beach. For three nights you will be staying in a wooden beach cabana under the shade of swaying coconut trees. Just sleep under the shade, sun bath and get that perfect tan under the tropical sun. Not to forget those Sri Lankan style jumbo prawns and fish delicacies.
DAY 18, 19 & 20 - Galle
Catch a bus to Galle, a historical town and not to miss destination in the south coast where you could relax by Unawatuna beach and explore myriad of cultural escapades south coast has to offer. Enjoy a lively beach with music, people, snorkeling and great seafood joints right on the beach and venture out to explore the historical Dutch Fort, Galle market and town on your own. Optionally, we could arrange you a guided cycle trip in the countryside where you would be able to witness rice fields, cinnamon fields, tea fields, lakes, villages and the trip ends where you would be able to get that picture post card type photo with the stilt fishermen of Koggala. Have that photo printed and post it to your loved ones at home to show how you enjoy this paradise Island. Stay in a beach guest house in Unawatuna.
DAY 21 - Negombo
You have come to the last sector of your Sri Lankan self-explorer adventure. We book you for a 3rd class reserved train journey from Galle to Colombo Fort. The train leaves at 10.55 AM and is approximately a 2 ½ hour journey along the coastal belt of Sri Lanka. Why 3rd class seats? That is where the real experience is.
When you arrive in Colombo Fort Railway station, buy a ticket from the Fort Railway station to Negombo in one of the Colombo Commuter trains to go to Negombo for the last night in Sri Lanka. Colombo Commuter is regular service every 1 ½ hours which connect Negombo with Colombo. Once you arrive in Negombo, catch a Tuk Tuk to the hotel in Negombo beach.
DAY 22 - Departure
Every good thing comes to an end. You just concluded a once in a life time Asian adventure in ultimate destination of Sri Lanka. You could hire a taxi to go to the airport and see you soon in Sri Lanka.
